Stallion Service Auction

Any owner of an AQHA registered Quarter Horse may participate in the MQHA program by donating one or more services. A stallion owner may purchase his own stallion service at 50% ($300 minimum) of advertised current stud fee.

Foals born into the Stallion Service Auction Program have lifetime eligibility.

The stallion owner must guarantee a live foal. If the mare being bred is found not to be in foal, the stallion owner must re-breed that mare or a mutually agreeable mare to continue to be eligible for the Futurities. MQHA must be notified of any re-breeding. The stallion owner will charge the normal mare care to the mare owner.

The stallion owner may use his standard breeding contract or one will be furnished by MQHA. After the service has been sold, MQHA will notify the stallion owner of the name and address of the purchaser, and will advise the purchaser to contact the stallion owner to make breeding arrangements.

Any person purchasing a stallion service must be a MQHA member. Joining MQHA may be done at time of paying for service purchased. The purchaser must designate the mare by July 1 of the breeding year.

The first offering of the stallion's services will be January 1 of each year. A mare owner may bid on as many services as he wishes. Bidding will start at 60% of the regularly advertised fee (subject to a $300 minimum.)

Because the horse industry has undergone changes over the last few years, the Stallion Service Auction and our Futurity Committee have seen the need for changes as well. Below is a list of changes approved by MQHA's board of directors regarding the Stallion Service Auction and the Futurity for 2005:

1. A stallion owner with a stallion not currently paid up in our SSA program can pay a one time fee of $500, plus the required payment to pay up the stallion for the year, and that additional fee of $500 will make ALL babies by this stallion eligible for the MQHA Futurity, with the condition that the stallion must be paid up in MQHA's SSA program every year. Should the stallion owner fail to pay up this stallion at any time, those babies "grandfathered in" will no longer be eligible.

2. There are no longer any "FREE" entries. (No "Free" entries means more money for payouts in each class)

3. Any breeding fee listed as "Private Treaty" will require a minimum payment of $500.

4. Limited classes will no longer be offered at the Futurity.

Please remember that babies eligible for our Futurity are also eligible for SSA classes held during the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show.
